What is Cyber Security ?
Cybersecurity refers to the practice of protecting networks, devices, and sensitive information from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction. This includes protecting against a wide range of threats, such as hacking, phishing, malware, and ransomware. Cybersecurity is like a big shield that helps protect our computer and other electronic devices from bad people. Just like how you have a helmet to protect your head when you ride your bike, cybersecurity helps protect our computers and the information we have on them. These bad people, sometimes called hackers, try to get into our computers and steal or damage our pictures, videos and other important information. Cybersecurity helps keep them out and keep our information safe.
In the business context, cybersecurity is critical for protecting sensitive business information and maintaining the availability and integrity of business operations. Companies rely on their IT systems to store and process sensitive data such as customer information, financial records, and confidential business information. Cybersecurity measures, such as firewalls, encryption, intrusion detection and response, help protect these systems and data from cyber-attacks.
Businesses also have to comply with various regulations, laws and industry standards that require them to implement certain cybersecurity measures, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). Cybersecurity is essential for protecting organizations and individuals from cyber-attacks and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information and IT systems.
